The project to create new first-class community sport and leisure facilities on the land off the Milton Road site has attained its first step along the way with a unanimous vote by Cherwell District Council’s planning committee for the change of use from agricultural to recreational on Thursday 23rd August.

The approval has involved a significant amount of work by APC to reach this stage and means that, once pre-commencement conditions are met, work to prepare the field for sowing grass suitable for use as pitches can be started. This will take approximately 18 months to two years to complete and in the meantime our consultation and fundraising work continues.

Thanks to all of you who have been involved in our under 18’s survey and the surveys published in Contact and on the website. We already have a good picture of what facilities residents would like to see on the site, and also how to refresh and improve facilities on the Lucy Plackett Field. So our next phase is to carry out further additional in-depth studies to try to meet as many of those requests as possible and at the same time create a sustainable business proposition.

There will then be further consultation before submission of an application to the District Council for the final proposal on the community building.
